Lake Martin is an excellent location for sport fishing and activities. You will find largemouth bass, salt water striped bass, hybrid bass, white bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish throughout the lake. Campsites that sit directly on the water allow for campers to engage in swimming right at their campsite, as well as docking boats for easy accessibility. There is also boating, canoeing, swimming and water skiing all across the lake.

Boat rental is offered at Wind Creek State Park with a variety to choose from, including Flat Bottom Jon Boats (Motorized and Non-Motorized) and Pontoon boats, with life jackets and paddles included in the rental fee. Please note: ALL boat renters are responsible for ALL ALABAMA boating laws. Boat rental is seasonal, so please call first.

Located approximately 40 miles northeast of Montgomery, in east central Alabama, Lake Martin encompasses over 39,000 acres with more than 700 miles of shoreline. There are numerous public access areas and marinas to facilitate boating and fishing. Each winter the water level is lowered approximately ten feet and most access areas are designed to accommodate this drawdown. Inside Wind Creek State Park you will find a 24 hour, 210-foot fishing pier. The store marina sells live bait, tackle, firewood, floats, RV & boat supplies, as well as game and fishing licenses.

Close by the park are more places to visit. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is dedicated to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. This Park spans over 2,000 acres and is located between New Site and Dadeville on Highway 49 South. There is a visitor center and museum with information about the time period of the battle and explaining the equipment used by the soldiers and Creek Indians. Just 15 miles south of Alexander City, on Highway 63, lies Children’s Harbor, a beautiful campus built around a picturesque New England seaside village motif. This features the Plymouth Lighthouse and Children’s Chapel, a charming little early American church. Providence Point at the Lake Martin campus is home to a replica of the Plymouth Lighthouse and symbolizes our goal of helping children and families find their way through the treacherous waters where they sometimes find themselves. A short 5-6 miles from Wind Creek State Park is Lakewinds Golf Course, an 18-hole public golf course. You will pass Lake Hill Restaurant on the way, giving you an excellent opportunity to stop in and grab a bite to eat. Sitting atop a bluff overlooking Lake Martin is the Lake Martin Amphitheater. This is just off Highway 63 near Kowaliga point by Russell Lands. An open-air site with grass seating for more than 2,500 patrons that overlooks the Big Kowaliga Basin makes this one of the most beautiful areas on Lake Martin.

Providing something for everyone, Wind Creek State Park offers fishing, picnicking, hiking, recreation or simply relaxing beneath the whispering pines. Picnic tables and grills are available on a first come first serve basis, although picnic pavilion rental is available. For a magnificent view of the lake, climb to the top of the old silo with winding steps.

Another great way to relax is to take advantage of the beach area. Opening at 7am, there is a volleyball area, bathhouses and picnic tables available for all to use.

Wind Creek State Park offers two hiking trails, providing everything from the beauty of blooming dogwood and wildflowers to white-tailed deer. Winding over hardwood ridges, through tall pines and down to the shoreline, these trails offer spectacular views of Lake Martin. If you happen to be horse camping, there is an additional Horse Trail that takes riders through a mixed forest of hard wood, ferns and pines, along a stream and also provides beautiful views of Lake Martin.
