Alabama State Park Paul M. Grist State Park

Paul M. Grist State Park provides over 1,000 acres of tranquility and relaxing atmosphere surrounding a 100 acre lake. Recreational adventures lie ahead for the entire family including fishing, hiking, camping, boating, swimming and picnicking.

The campground is located on the lake and provides 11 RV sites with water, sewer and 50 amp service. Located nearby is an ADA accessible bath house that is cleaned daily. There are also primitive camping sites available for those that prefer to camp by tent. All sites are first come, first serve and reservations will not be taken. Canoes & Pedal Boats are available to rent for anyone age 16 & older. Campers age 16 & older also have the option to rent a Flat Bottom Jon Boat. Children under the age of 8 must wear a life jacket at all times and each person in the boat must have a Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket available. Keep in mind that swimming from the boats is prohibited and the boats are not allowed in the swimming areas.

If fishing is your favorite past time, Paul M. Grist State Park’s centerpiece lake is where you will want to be. Stocked with bluegill, catfish, bass and redear sunfish, the lake provides hours of kicking back and relaxing with rod in hand. Gasoline motors are prohibited, but electric trolling motors are welcome. For privately owned boats there is a launching ramp provided. Artificial bait, fishing tackle, supplies, drinks and refreshments are available at the park office. Park admission includes boat launch and daily fishing. Eleven miles south of Selma in Sardis, Alabama is Dallas County Lake, another great fishing spot to check out.

Admission to the park also includes use of the designated swimming area and grassy bank, but keep in mind there are no lifeguards on duty. Close by is a large picnic pavilion and several picnic tables, large open playing fields and ample shoreline for bank fishermen.
