Alabama State Park Frank Jackson State Park
Located outside Opp, Alabama is beautiful Frank Jackson State Park. Measuring just over 2,000 acres, including its 1,000 acre stream-fed lake, this park is clearly a prime destination for anyone that enjoys the sport of fishing. Lake Jackson features shoreline picnic areas, lakefront RV camping sites with cable TV hookups, a nice modern bathhouse and outstanding fishing and swimming opportunities. Complete with a natural island, boardwalk and walking path, Frank Jackson State Park is a great destination for your next camping adventure. Day use areas are open from 6am to 7pm daily.
Camping facilities at Frank Jackson State Park include a handicap accessible bathhouse, picnic pavilion/shelter and walkway located adjacent to the campground. The park offers a total of 32 RV campsites, three of them being handicap accessible. There are no separate tent camping sites, but you may tent camp in the RV sites, at the regular rate. Free wireless internet access is available at all campsites.
Lake Jackson is specially stocked and managed for prime freshwater fishing. There is an abundance of bass, bream, crappie and catfish throughout the lake. Every April, you can see anglers converging in the park, getting ready for a bass fishing tournament. Boaters have access to launch ramps a grassy beach provides water access for canoe paddlers and swimmers. There is also a fishing platform that is handicap accessible, located at the northwest end of the dam.
Feel like going for a stroll? Take a walk across the unique boardwalk/bridge that leads from the boat ramp/parking area to the island. There is a short walking trails that loops around the island and provides limited access to the shoreline. At the entrance to the trail is an educational kiosk that provides information on small mammals and birds that can be seen in the park. There is also a picnic pavilion available to rent. Call for reservations.
During the months of October and November, scarecrows will line the walking trails of Frank Jackson State Park. The Lake Frank Jackson Trailmasters started this event in 2008 and have continued to host it each year. The scarecrows are designed by various individuals, businesses and school groups. During the annual “Scarecrows in The Park”, approximately three miles of walking trails will include the festive and original characters.
